HARIANDAY, Jakarta-
Jakarta administration is set to build five traditional markets for
street vendors. Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the
groundbreaking of the market is scheduled to be done next week.
"The construction will take five months," said the governor at the city hall yesterday, adding that the construction will be done simultaneously in five regions so that the markets will be completed at the same time.
Those markets include Manggis market and Pesanggrahan market in South Jakata, Nangka Bungur market in Central Jakarta, Kampung Duri market in West Jakarta and Bawang market in North Jakarta, all of which are to be occupied from nearby areas.
In the meantime, President Director of the city-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya, Djangga Lublis said street vendors in those traditional markets will be exempt from paying rent and other operational costs such as electricity and sanitary. "They won’t have to bear the burden because they are small-scale businessmen," he said.
Djangga added that each traditional market would only occupy an area covering 100 – 300 hectares, giving it a small capacity.
The construction of these markets aims to organize areas around the markets in a bid to boost selling points and competitiveness of the areas. (sumber; tempo)
